Motor Daler Bora

Motor Daler Bora:

Motor Daler Bora” is an authentic Bengali dish also known as “Peas Pakora”.

This is a very simple and easy recipe made from Motor Dal (yellow Peas).

Different kinds of other dishes can be made using this bora like “Daler Borar Dalna”,  “Daler Borar Jhal”.

It helps to add more flavour when used with vegetable curry like Kumro Shak (কুমড়োশাক),  Lau Shak (লাউশাক), Lau (লাউ) and more.

Motor Daler Bora can be served as snacks.

It is one of the most delicious side dish that goes with plain Rice, Masoor Dal (lentil ), and Moong Dal.

Serves: 4 People

Ingredients:

  • Motor Dal (yellow split peas): 1 cup
  • Green chilli: 1 piece
  • Salt: To taste
  • Turmeric powder: ¼ Tsp
  • Kalojira (nigella): 1 pinch
  • Vegetable Oil: ½ Tbsp

Preparation:

  1. Wash and rinse the Motor Dal under running water until the water runs clear.
  2. Soak the Dal in plain water for a minimum of 4 hours. Better to soak overnight.
  3. Next morning leave it to drain for about twenty minutes
  4. Add 1 green chilli.
  5. Grind soaked dal in a grinder and make a smooth paste.
  6. Take the ground dal in a mixing bowl.
  7. Add salt, turmeric powder, and kalojira.
  8. Beat the fritter with your hand for 2-3 minutes till everything is well mixed up.

Procedure:

  1. Add oil into the pan and wait until the oil is hot.
  2. Once the oil is hot reduce the flame to low, wait for 2 minutes for the oil to cool down.
  3. Take about one tablespoon of batter and carefully put it in the pan.
  4. Repeat this till you have five to six fritters frying in the pan.
  5. Fry the fritters on a low medium flame for three to four minutes on each side till they turn crispy and golden brown. Do not over-fry.
  6. Once both sides of the fritters are golden brown, drain on tissue paper.
  7. Repeat the process till all the batter is used up.

Serves: 4 people

Serve with

  • As a side dish with plain Rice and Dal.
  • Sprinkle some rock salt (bit noon) on the fritter and enjoy as a snack with Tea.
  • Can be used to make other dishes like “Daler Borar Dalna”, “Daler Borar Jhal”.
  • It helps to add more flavour when used with vegetable curry like Kumro Shak (কুমড়োশা), Lau Shak (লাউশাক), Lau (লাউ) and more.

Tips:

  • Fry the fritters on a low medium flame for three to four minutes on each side till they turn crispy and golden brown.
  • If oil is very hot, then outside of the fritter may get burned, and inside may not be cooked evenly.
  • Do not over-fry. If it gets burned, then the taste will be very harsh or bitter.
  • If you want to serve as snacks, then grated coconuts can be used to make the batter. This will add extra flavour. Tastes best when hot and crispy.
